The hailing port must be a real place in the United States, as listed in the U.S. Department of Commerce's Federal Information Processing Standards Publication 55DC. The hailing port can be different from the vessel's physical location or registration

The hailing port must be marked on a visible part of the vessel's stern in durable, legible letters that are at least four inches tall

Clear and recognizable font and bold colors ar preferred for an eligible reading.
